Charlotte the spider called her great work her Magnum Opus. Not only do children gain research skills with this project, they gain confidence in their public speaking ability, knowledge of integrity by citing their sources, and a sense of pride in doing their best!

Third grade students took the leadership role on Thursday as we planned and facilitated our first Publishing Party. Each kindergarten, first, and second grader walked through the streamers with a piece of writing that was ready to be published. Each station they visited had a special purpose such as title page, about the author, cover design, layout and word placement, revising, and illustrations. View the pictures to see multi-age learning in action!
Multi-age + Multiple intelligences= mega fun
We are fortunate enough to be in walking distance of a beautiful park! We were able to engage in outdoor learning and fire up our higher order thinking skills. We tied in what we have been learning in the classroom and made connections by seeing historical artifacts in front of our own eyes.
Sometimes we just need time to think and absorb what is going on around us. Sam was able to make connections to his changing environment by pausing to listen to the hammering of a nearby worker. Mansfield keeps changing everyday in little ways.
How far can you run in 10 seconds? Third graders found that on average they can run 134 feet! Median, mode, and range also made an appearance.
The third and fourth graders are seeing dollar signs this month as our budget project continues. The project started with a big question, "How is our money organized?" Well, ask any student and they will tell you that the initial cost of buying a pet is a lot more than they bargained for. Vet bills, food costs, and the price of a good trainer has pushed some of these pet owners into the red! We just finished calculating monthly costs and will conclude with yearly costs and final findings in the next two weeks.
