Guided Reading This month in reading we will read different versions of Cinderella and will really be concentrating on the compare/contrast skill! | Book Report Choices #1 Dress up as the evil character from your story. Write your persuasive paragraphs about why you are innocent in your story. #2 Dress up as a Fairy Godmother and create a sculpture of the prince or princess from your story. Use any combination of soap, wood, clay, sticks, wire, stones, old toy pieces, or any other object. Write your persuasive paragraphs about why your princess/prince is better than all the other princesses/princes in the other fairy tales. (Can be used with the main character if there is no prince or princess in your story) #3 Create a map (all map parts must be present), or build the setting inside a shoe box, or create a piece of art about the setting. Write your persuasive paragraphs about why people should move to your setting (typically a kingdom or a land far, far, away). | Science Owl Prezi Presentations The children have been working hard on their owl presentations. I am so impressed with their technology skills! They will be presenting on Wednesday the 7th or Thursday the 8th. If we have a snow day, we will move the presentation to Monday. The presentation will count as a science and language arts grade. |
Spring OAA Test
The OAA is a state required test the children will be taking in the spring. You can go online and have your child practice for this test. You do not need to login, just click on take the test without logging in the bottom right hand corner. It will tell your child whether their answer is correct after each question. Everyday Math We will be continuing unit 8 of Everyday Mathematics in March. This unit is on fractions. A great way to practice fractions at home is to let your children help in the kitchen! Here are some websites that will help your children practice fractions at home. http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/games/equivalentfractions/index.html http://www.vectorkids.com/vkfractions.htm http://www.ixl.com/math/practice/grade-3-fraction-review Read Across America March 2nd we will be participating in Read across America. The children will be asked to drop everything and read at different parts in the day. If you would like to send small power snacks in we would really appreciate it! We would love to have you come to class and read your favorite story this day. Let me know if you are able to spread the love of reading to your children! | Book Topics! This month is traditional literature month. Traditional Literature is stories that are passed down from one generation to another in history. This includes fairy tales, legends, fables, folktales, tall tales, and myths from different cultures. |
